utah_family_0001_greenapple I first met Sharstin at a Valentine's party. I will never forget it, because one of my favorite Lucy stories happened there (Lucy snuck bags of candy in her skirt, and was sneakily eating the entire cookie decoration stash, while I was photographing.) I will also never forget the meeting because, seriously, Sharstin and her girls are stunningly beautiful. Beautiful in the beautiful inside, beautiful outside kinda way. She was pregnant with her sweet Leo, and I just had Jack, and I felt a kinship of talking to another Mother about boys (since I was a novice in that department.)

Sharstin has become a friend, and I can't think of a sweeter family. If you know Sharstin, you know this to be true. And it was a great honor to photograph a moment in their life. Moments are fleeting, and I've been guilty of missing a lot of my own lately. When babies are taking their first steps, and getting their first teeth. When sons are growing up, but not too cool to run with their little sister. When everyone is crying and laughing and spinning. I'll take it, and photograph it, and keep a tiny bit for my story too.

Kim and Alex | Utah Mountain Bridals

utah bridals_0001_greenapple We went out of town for a few days, and when we got back, the trees were blooming and the flowers were making their grand debut. It's such a happy day when Spring makes it's official appearance. And it's a really happy day, remembering this beautiful session with Kim and Alex. The day was really rainy (remember how it rained forever last year?) and Kim's dress had layers upon layers of hand beading, and so we stayed carefully put in one beautiful mountain spot, and made some lovely, summer magic. Can you believe Kim hand beaded this amazing dress? From the gorgeous flowers by Lizy Bowden/Lizy's Lilies, and the a super fly man bun, I was in love with the entire session!

Elyse and David Sundance Wedding ~ Published Utah Bride and Groom

greenapple_sundance_0001I've been waiting to share this wedding for over a year, and the day is finally here! Elyse and David's incredibly thoughtful and beautiful wedding is published in Utah Bride and Groom! I couldn't think of a prettier home for a wedding that was completely heartfelt. This wedding means a lot to me for many reasons. I watched Elyse grow up. I moved into her neighborhood when I was a newlywed myself and ended up being her Church teacher. And I always loved Elyse. She was someone who had a vision for her life, knew what she wanted, had a wicked sense of humor and the warmest heart. We kept in touch over the years, and she met the perfect man in David. They are artists and teachers, living in New York City. Their love story is a special one, one of friendship, support and love in good times and the not so good times. They are both articulate, kind, generous, creative, and adventurous. Elyse and David's vision was to combine Elyse's love of the Utah mountains, with their home in New York City, so rustic big city? The wedding was a family affair of contributing talents, from the Chuppa,  invitations by Elyse's sister, Hannah, and beautiful acoustic music from a close friend.  David drew scenes of New York on the table cards and serenaded Elyse. Their vows brought me to tears, their speeches made me laugh (and mad libs!) and I truly felt that I was witnessing two soul mates starting their journey together.

Mikki and Braydon ~ Utah Family Session

mikki_GreenApple_0001 It's the new year, and for some reason this post is all tied into life, and present-ness, moments, and you know, all THE THINGS that I/we want to be and feel and do. This post is a little bit about photo locations gone a bust, but more about baby kisses, and messy hair, and the imperfectly perfect moments that are gone before you know it. Lucky us, though, because there are a million more we get to experience. Life seems to be so meta lately, and anticipating the perfect Instagram image, and missing the real life happening behind it (guilty.) And so, when I look at these pictures I'm filled with happiness that an opportunity was not wasted to capture life--wonderful, crazy, spinning, running, joyous, stressful, incredibly real life. And although I'm not making any official resolutions this year, I guess I kind of am. Because I want to be experiencing my life in real time and not as I scroll through a social media feed (Oh, and more sleep! Always more sleep.)

So, Thank you, Mikki, Braydon, and littles, for letting me into your life and document this bit of time for you. You are amazing!

I've always loved the darker side of things. Wuthering Heights was the first book that I really remember inhaling (anyone else read like that?) I like stormy days, and songs in minor, wandering souls, and I've been a lover of fairy tales as long as I can remember. Early spring tends to bring this side out of me, and Allison, of La Feté, and I were inspired by the darker side of fairy tales, with a little Great Expectation mixed in. We wanted a shoot that was haunting, emotive, and follows the journey of a girl, neglected in her wedding finery, waiting for her lost love.

There are so many stories I want to tell about this shoot, which we secretly dubbed, haunted mansion. From my assistant falling into a rotting pool of water, flowers three days late, some blood and near fainting, there was definite a bit of misadventure going on as well. But that is what makes what we do such a great adventure. Read below for all the amazing contributors, who lent their talents and gifts to our labor of love!

And Catherine and Jama are perfect whether it's a little green or a little snowy. I think the world of these two, and their sweet happiness!
